Ken Chan, one of the foremost dBASE gurus,
has kindly allowed us to start our library of downloadable files
with the paper he presented at the 1998 Inprise Conference in
Denver. It is called "Exploiting the Power of the Visual
dBASE 7 Language".
It certainly does that. Look especially at the section on Dynamic
Report Layout for how to include User defined reports in
your applications

User Report Generator
|
This is based on Ken Chan's paper but with many extra features
and enhancements. It allows developers and/or users to build
listing type reports from within an application and without using
the VdB Report Designer. It is in the form of a working demonstration
system that can readily be adapted for use in other applications.
An included UsRepGen.htm file gives full details of operation
and how to modify for your own use.
User Report Generator Mark II
An entirely new report generator is now available. This works
quite differently to the Mark I version. It includes lotsof new
features and actually creates complete and immediately usable
Report files. A long descriptive article (written for dBulletin
No.9) is included. The URG2 is suitable for both programmers
and users. A wide range of reports listing data from tables can
be produced in just two or three minutes without any programming
at all. A slightly modified version of URG2 that will
run in v7.01 is now available. It includes a couple of example
tables to allow a quick test of what it does. The article from
dBulletin No. 9 is not repeated in this alternate file so download
the main file as well to get this.

New dBASE Electronic Magazine. The 10th issue of dBulletin
has just been released, see below for details. Each consists
of articles by and for dBASE programmers. Each article is in
HTM format and comes with pictures and, where relevant, example
code or programs. In all, the eight issues contain over 40 articles.
A new index to all issue is now on the web sites below.
No VdB developer can afford to be without the bulletins. The
articles range from invaluable little tips and ideas, some new
to all of us surely, to in-depth explanations of how to use WIN-API
calls and how to send emails from within VdB. The overall quality
is very high and many of the included controls and routines can
be dropped straight into our own applications.
The magazine can be read on-line or downloaded for reading
off-line (there is a zip file for each issue containing the full
contents). To view or download, click on link below - in each
case this will take you to Issue 1 but from that you can navigate
to all subsequent issues.
